05/03/2010 - As the Bank celebrates the International Women’s Day on Monday, 8 March 2010, AfDB’s web editorial team spoke with AfDB Financial Management Department (FFMA) Director, Kodeidja Diallo, to obtain her views on current conditions and perceptions of women in Africa and what the Bank is doing to help women take their rightful places in the African society. At the end of the interview, Mrs.Diallo gave a message of hope particularly to the majority of women who are not holding leadership positions, emphasizing that any of them can equally contribute to Africa’s future as long as they “aim at excellence in all their endeavors”.

07/03/2008 - I plead that the Bank increase the number of women in project departments; further emphasize girls’ enrolment and continued education; set up microcredit for women; grant special scholarships to girls to encourage excellence; and give priority to health centers so than African women never have to die in the process of bringing to the world another life.
07/03/2008 - Poverty within the African context is wide-ranging indeed. The variations emanate not only from differences in perception, but also differences in culture. Broadly speaking, I would define poverty to be a condition where people are unable to attain a minimum standard of living, lack access to basic needs such as education, health, and are not empowered. And as far as women’s empowerment is concerned, the continent still has a long way to go.
