05/04/2013 - As of the 31st of March 2013, the Global Environment Facility’s Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) has granted USD 18.6 million to be channeled by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to Sierra Leone, Uganda and Mauritania for project concepts to help climate-proof their water sectors. This work is regarded as a critical element of these countries’ moves toward climate-resilient poverty reduction and sustainable development.

26/03/2013 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group approved, on March 25, 2013, a grant amounting to US $3.04 million to finance the Kholombidzo Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) Feasibility Studies in Malawi. The Government of Malawi will contribute US $0.23 million (7%) of the total study cost of US $3.27 million.

22/02/2013 - The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) has announced an agreement to provide Nigeria with US $50 million to support an African Development Bank-supported program of financial intermediation for renewable energy and energy efficiency through local banks, as part of the country’s national Investment Plan endorsed by the CIF in 2010. The money, being provided under the CIF’s Clean Technology Fund (CTF), is designated to stimulate alternative and efficient ways to generate electricity and to reduce dependence on energy sources which contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions.

22/02/2013 - The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) has approved a grant of US $950,000 to help Nigeria prepare for a proposed project to revamp Abuja’s mass transit system. The request for the project preparation money was submitted to the CIF by the Government of Nigeria and the African Development Bank (AfDB). This is the first time the CIF has approved a sustainable transport project preparation grant within Africa, and marks the way forward for the transport sector as part of the AfDB and CIF work to help Africa move toward low-carbon and climate-resilient development.

20/12/2012 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a senior loan of USD 50 million for the expansion of the Azito power plant in Côte d'Ivoire. This facility aims to finance the third phase of the project which consists of converting the existing 288 MW simple-cycle power plant to a combined-cycle power plant, thereby increasing the total generation capacity to 430 MW.

20/12/2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved on December 19th 2012, a USD 21 million package to finance the implementation of the Zanzibar Urban Water and Sanitation Project in the United Republic of Tanzania. The Government will contribute 10% of the project costs.
