27/08/2012 - The Government of Ethiopia and the African Development Bank signed a US$ 251-million loan agreement Friday for the “Promoting Basic Services” (PBS) Phase III Program at a ceremony held at the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance and Economic Development in Addis Ababa. H.E. Ahmed Shide, State Minister of Finance and Economic Development, and Mr. Lamin Barrow, the Bank’s Resident Representative in Ethiopia, signed on behalf of the Government of Ethiopia and the African Development Bank respectively.

24/05/2012 - Millions of people living in the Baro-Akobo-Sobat (BAS) area of the Nile Basin are to benefit from a range of multi-purpose water resources projects to be planned by the Nile Basin Initiative. On May 4, the African Development Bank approved a €2 million grant from the African Water Facility to finance the development study needed to attract the investments required to implement them. The overall project is supported jointly by the New Partnership for Africa’s Development- Infrastructure Project Preparation Facility (NEPAD-IPPF).

31/01/2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Customs Organization (WCO) will work together to enhance the capacity of customs administrations in Africa. The declaration was made yesterday evening in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, during the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the two institutions, on the margins of the 18th African Union Summit.

11/11/2011 - The upgrading of a 112-km road to an all-weather standard approved by the African Development Bank Group will boost economic activities and promote poverty reduction in Ethiopia. An estimated 1.3 million people residing along the Bedele-Metu road corridor will benefit from the project.

24/03/2011 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved on Wednesday, 23 March 2011 in Tunis, a USD 40-million second lien corporate loan to Ethiopian Airlines to support the purchase of five Boeing 777-200LR passenger jets. As part of the Ethiopian Airlines’ investment plan for 2010-2018, the aircraft will replace old aircraft and expand its capacity on long haul routes to and from Africa.

04/11/2010 - The Global Agriculture and Food Security Fund (GAFSP) Steering Committee approved on, Wednesday, 3 November 2010 in Washington D.C., a USD 97-million grant allocations to three countries. The selected countries are: Ethiopia (USD 51.5 million), Niger (USD 33 million) and Mongolia (USD 12.5 million). For Niger, the implementation will be done by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and for Ethiopia, by the AfDB and World Bank.

21/10/2010 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved on Wednesday 20 October 2010 in Tunis, a USD 15-million equity investment in Catalyst Fund, a 10-year multi-sector private equity based in Kenya primarily covering the East Africa Community (EAC) as well as DRC, Ethiopia and Zambia. The target market has a population of 280 million, with a USD 126 billion combined GDP.
