24/05/2012 - Millions of people living in the Baro-Akobo-Sobat (BAS) area of the Nile Basin are to benefit from a range of multi-purpose water resources projects to be planned by the Nile Basin Initiative. On May 4, the African Development Bank approved a €2 million grant from the African Water Facility to finance the development study needed to attract the investments required to implement them. The overall project is supported jointly by the New Partnership for Africa’s Development- Infrastructure Project Preparation Facility (NEPAD-IPPF).

22/05/2012 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) approved on 16 May in Tunis, an equity investment of USD 100 million to Agvance Africa, the first agribusiness-focused Fund of Funds on the African continent. The strategic objective of Agvance Africa is to increase private investment flows into the agribusiness sector on the continent to address growing food security concerns and unleash the largely unexploited potential of African agriculture and agribusiness sectors.

17/05/2012 - The African Development Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved a total of USD 13.95 million (UA 9.00 million ) through a grant mechanism on 16 May 2012. The grant will enable the African Community of Practice for Managing for Development Results (AfCoP) to mainstream Managing for Development Results (MfDR) into the policies and strategies of RMCs and RECs.

16/05/2012 - The Boards of Directors of the African Development Bank Group today in Tunis approved the equivalent of USD 436 million for the financing of Morocco’s power project, and two other investments in Africa. The first approval is an AfDB loan of Euro 168 million and USD 100 million Clean Technology Fund concessionary loan to finance the first phase of the Ouarzazate solar power station in Morocco.

26/03/2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the West African Development Bank (WADB) signed a loan agreement of a capital subscription of EUR 3.05 million and a line of credit of EUR 64 million to the West African Development Bank (WADB). The objective of this facility is to strengthen WADB’s financial capacities and to assert its role as a strategic partner of AfDB in financing the private sector, the engine of growth in West Africa.

19/03/2012 - On 12 March 2012, the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) signed a grant agreement for USD 63million to fund a multinational project titled “Support to Agricultural Research for Development of Strategic Crops in Africa (SARD-SC), and the IITA.

16/03/2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Kenyan government signed loan and grant agreements totaling some USD 336 million in support of clean energy and road infrastructure development in Kenya on 12 March. The financial package includes a USD 186.7 million loan for the Mombasa-Nairobi-Addis Ababa Road Corridor Project and a USD 149.5 million loan and grant financing for the Menengai Geothermal Development Project.

16/03/2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has signed two grant agreements with the Gambian government totalling USD 7 million to improve access to clean drinking water and better sanitation for an estimated 40,000 people in rural areas of the country and cut hygiene-related deaths in those areas, particularly among children.

13/03/2012 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved on February 15, 2012 a USD 200 million line of credit (LOC) in favour of the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), a multinational financial institution based in Lagos, Nigeria, with the mandate to catalyse investments and create partnerships to help bridge Africa’s infrastructure gap.
