15/05/2012 - The African Development Bank Group in North Africa – A Year of Transitions is the third annual report produced by the AfDB North region departments. As was the case in earlier editions, the report focuses on the underlying challenges the region faced prior to the Arab Spring. However, this edition probes the obstacles that led to the Arab Spring. It goes on to explore how political transitions underway will shape North Africa’s options in meeting its economic challenges.

28/03/2012 - Aquatic plant proliferation is an environmental scourge. These weeds invade waterways and irrigation channels, impeding their economic operation. Fishermen have suffered rising costs, and farmers have to spend more time cleaning their irrigation canals, resulting in lost production and productivity.

22/11/2011 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and finance company, Mauritania Leasing, signed an agreement on 15 November in Dakar for a grant of USD 365,000 provided by the Fund for African Private Sector Assistance (FAPA) to help finance small and medium-sized enterprises in the country.

14/10/2011 - In its new publication, Islamic Banking and Finance in North Africa, the African Development Bank assesses the state of Islamic banking in the region and explains why its use has been limited. The report considers the future potential of Islamic finance, including its possible alignment with North Africa’s development goals, particularly its ability to increase the diversification of funding sources.

11/05/2011 - The Report, titled, “The BRICs in North Africa: Changing the Name of the Game?” says the group, which comprised Brazil, Russia, India and China during the time covered by the report (South Africa joined in 2011) is drawn to the region due to a growing need for raw materials and minerals; an amenable investment and regulatory climate; its relatively large population and overall GDP; low production and labour costs, and geographical proximity to European and Middle East markets.

31/03/2011 - The Oversight Committee of the Governance Trust Fund met for the first time this week. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Kamal El Kheshen, Vice President for Sector Operations, and took place at the AfDB’s Temporary Relocation Agency in Tunis.

04/12/2009 - La BAD et le gouvernement mauritanien ont signé, le 1e décembre 2009, à Zouérate, en Mauritanie, un accord de prêt relatif au projet d’extension de la mine Guelb El Rhein (Guelb II). Le prêt a été signé, pour la partie BAD et, au nom du vice-président de la BAD B. Pittman, par M. Lobe Ndoumbe, directeur à la BAD, et, pour la partie mauritanienne, par M. Taleb Ould Abdivall, administrateur et directeur-général de la SNIM.
