25/11/2011 - Africa’s development agenda will remain a high priority, even as Mexico takes over the chair of the Group of Twenty (G20) finance ministers and central bank governors from France from 1 December 2011. Speaking to the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Tunis on 23 November, Rémy Rioux of the French Ministry of Economy Finance and Industry, and the Vice Sherpa of France in the G20 Development Working Group, told the executive directors that G20 discussions, consultations and the action plan for global economic stability will “advance Africa’s development priorities, especially on the infrastructure side.”

10/12/2010 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) President, Donald Kaberuka, has reiterated the need for a comprehensive post-2012 Kyoto agreement on climate change acceptable to all, and underscored the importance of the Africa Green Fund being established by the AfDB, to mobilize resources in support efforts to mitigate the disastrous impact of volatile weather conditions across the continent.

10/12/2010 - African Ministers attending the Cancun COP 16 Conference called again for the early establishment of an Africa Green Fund (AGF). This echoed an earlier call by African leaders in Copenhagen in December 2009 for a funding mechanism that sets aside resources for Africa, provides enhanced direct access, and equitable and transparent allocation of resources to be managed by the African Development Bank.

10/12/2010 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) joined representatives from other multilateral development banks (MDB) on Monday, 6 December 2010, in a joint side event on “Scaling-up International Climate Finance” during the ongoing COP16 Climate Conference. It was an opportunity to share with stakeholders how MDBs are collaborating to expand access to international financing and bolster investments in climate change mitigation and adaptation.

03/12/2010 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, represented by Mr. Anthony Nyong, Compliance and Safeguards Division Manager, briefed African climate change negotiators on Tuesday, 30 November 2010 in Cancun, Mexico. He informed them that the Africa Green Fund (AGF) was being set up in response to the request by Africa’s leadership for a ring-fencing of resources pledged under the Copenhagen Accord for Africa and importantly, that this allocation be managed by the AfDB.

29/11/2010 - «Familiariser les négociateurs sur le changement climatique, des pays de la Communauté économique des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO) sur les questions liées au marché du carbone et favoriser les échanges entre négociateurs pour une position unique et convergente dans les négociations avec les Parties signataires de la Convention Climat (COP) à Cancun au Mexique». Ainsi se résument les objectifs d’un atelier de formation sur le marché du carbone et sur le Programme de Réduction des émissions provenant de la déforestation et de la dégradation des terres (REDD), financé par la Banque, du 8 au 13 novembre 2010 à Niamey. L’atelier a été organisé par le Centre Régional d’Agro-météorologie et d’Hydrologie (AGRHYMET) et s’est tenu dans les locaux dudit centre à Niamey.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was established in 1992 at the Rio Summit with the aim of addressing the issue of global warming and its consequences. The Conference of Parties (COP) is the highest decision-making authority of the UNFCCC and its sessions take place once a year to specify rules for UNFCCC implementation.
