Speaking to media representatives at Rio+20 during a press breakfast on 21 June 2012, the president of the African Development Bank, Donald Kaberuka, has warned against the risks of dropping poverty reduction from sustainable development policies. “None can decline the fact that since 2000 we have made a long way on the Millenium development goals,” he said. “It is extremely important to reconcile in the coming months, the debate on sustainable development goals and the Millenium development goals, to agree that we do not celebrate victory too quickly on the MDGs, that we do not reduce the focus on poor countries with a narrow set of goals and move on to  broader universal goals when you can make fast progress on this narrow agenda.”
