01/04/2013 - At their meeting in Durban, the BRICS group put forward the proposal establishing a Development Bank under their auspices. This initiative was hailed by Donald Kaberuka, President of the AfDB. A grand premiere in Africa, this decision was taken at the meeting held on the 26 and 27 March 2013. The continent welcomed the annual meeting of the BRICS group held in Durban made up of Brazil, India, China, Russia and South Africa joining these countries in April 2011.

26/03/2013 - The new world order comes to Durban this week – for the fifth BRICS Summit, and the first in Africa. Dilma Rousseff, Vladimir Putin, Manmohan Singh, Xi Jinping and Jacob Zuma represent a changing world, as gravity and power gradually shift from North to South, and West to East. Between them, they preside over nearly half of the world’s population, and nearly a quarter of its GDP.

The President of the African Development Bank Group, Donald Kaberuka, is undertaking an official visit to India from January 30 to February 1, to participate as keynote speaker in the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit and hold meetings with senior Indian officials. The goal of the visit is to strengthen ties with the South Asian giant, particularly in areas of partnership and resource mobilization.

18/01/2013 - The Ambassador of the Republic of India to Tunisia, Nagma Mallick, on January 16, 2013 called on the African Development Bank Group and held a meeting with President Donald Kaberuka in Tunis. The meeting revolved around cooperation between the South Asian country and the Bank. Ambassador Mallick expressed satisfaction following her talk with President Kaberuka and her country’s willingness to organize an “India Day” alongside the AfDB’s 2013 Annual Meetings.

11/05/2011 - The Report, titled, “The BRICs in North Africa: Changing the Name of the Game?” says the group, which comprised Brazil, Russia, India and China during the time covered by the report (South Africa joined in 2011) is drawn to the region due to a growing need for raw materials and minerals; an amenable investment and regulatory climate; its relatively large population and overall GDP; low production and labour costs, and geographical proximity to European and Middle East markets.
