Remittances represent a rising source of finance for the continent and hold immense potential as drivers of economic growth and development. A recent study, Leveraging Migration for Africa: Remittances, Skills, and Investments, conducted by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in collaboration with the World Bank shows that remittance flows into Africa reached US $40 billion in 2010 and have quadrupled since 1990. African remittances currently account for 2.6 per cent of GDP, a figure that in some countries equals or even exceeds both foreign direct investment and aid.

12/02/2013 - The Chief Economist Complex of the African Development Bank Group has released an Economic Brief on the application of diaspora bonds in an African context. Drawing lessons from diaspora bond issuances in Israel, Ethiopia and India, the paper, entitled “Diaspora Bonds: Some Lessons for African Countries”, argues that tapping migration wealth could be an effective means of funding development on the continent.

10/12/2012 - The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) is pleased to announce the 3rd call for proposals of the Migration and Development Fund (MDF). Award amounts will range from 350,000 EUR to 500,000 EUR per project.

11/04/2011 - La BAD a lancé aujourd’hui à Tunis, le rapport sur les transferts des migrants. Intitulé : «Mettre les migrations au service de l’Afrique : Envois de fonds, compétences et investissements». Le rapport est une co-production de la BAD et de la Banque mondiale. « Les fonds des migrants africains sont devenus une source stable et importante de financement pour les pays africains ainsi qu’une balise de sauvetage pour les ménages ». a déclaré l’économiste en chef, Ncube Mthuli. L’économiste en chef a ouvert la réunion de lancement du rapport, en présence du président de la Banque, de plusieurs experts et de journalistes.

28/11/2008 - Au cours de la 2ème Conférence ministérielle euro-africaine, qui s’est tenue à Paris, le 25 novembre 2008, le Ministre français de l’immigration, Brice Hortefeux, a annoncé que la France allait participer à un fonds fiduciaire multi bailleurs avec la BAD visant une meilleure mobilisation des fonds transférés par la diaspora africaine et de ses compétences au service du développement des pays d’origine.
