The Independent Evaluation Department of the AfDB has launched an evaluation of the Bank’s microfinance operations: Fostering Inclusive Growth in Africa: An Evaluation of the Bank’s Microfinance Policy, Strategy, and Projects, 2000-2012. Against this backdrop, the AfDB Evaluation Community of Practice (ECoP) will be hosting a talk on Financial Access for the Poor – Why it matters & where we are in the journey The talk will focus on why financial access matters for the poor; increasingly robust impact evidence; and progress and opportunities going forward.

19/12/2012 - Sylvia Apreku’s passion for development policy and planning, as well as project management with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa attracted her to enroll in the Masters in Development Economics Programme at Dalhousie University in Canada. Since completing Dalhousie University in 2003, she has been involved in various development policy and public sector reform management initiatives aimed at improving public service delivery and contributing towards poverty reduction across Eastern, Southern and Western Africa.

Frannie Léautier, current Executive Secretary of the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), brought her expertise to the Bank as the institution ratified its monitoring and evaluation reforms.

06/12/2012 - On Monday, 3 December, 2012, the AfDB Evaluation Week was launched by Donald Kaberuka, AfDB President; His Excellency Tertius Zongo, Former Prime Minster of Burkina Faso; Executive Director, Samy Zaghloul, Chair of the Bank’s Committee on Development Effectiveness (CODE); and Rakesh Nangia, the Director of the Operations Evaluation Department.

04/12/2012 -  The Operations Evaluation Department of the African Development Bank, OPEV, celebrated its 25 years of existence within the Bank with a week dedicated to evaluation, under the theme “Evaluation for Development”. This year, the event brought together development experts as well as evaluation specialists from the World Bank, the International Finance Society, the Asian Development Bank, the International Agriculture Development Fund, and representatives from regional member countries.
