08/06/2010 - Poverty reduction strategies in Africa can be improved by understanding the sources of economic growth and how such growth translates into poverty reduction. Using different household survey data at 5 to 10-year intervals, the AfDB’s Research Department conducted a pro-poor growth analysis in four of Africa’s middle-income countries (MICs): Mauritius, Morocco, South Africa and Tunisia.

28/05/2010 - Yes, the C-10 Deputies indeed had an informal side meeting on Thursday May 27 at the AfDB Annual Meeting. Being an informal meeting, one of the objectives was to provide an update on key developments regarding G-20 related activities since the Committee’s last meeting in February in Cape Town. The meeting created an avenue for discussions to build a strong and unified African voice in preparation for the upcoming G-20 Summit Meeting in Canada in June 2010. Economic issues were also discussed, especially those pertaining to prospects for Africa’s economic recovery and exit strategies from expansionary policies

09/02/2010 - Donald Kaberuka, president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), has just returned from a visit to China whose principal aim was how to strengthen cooperation between the Bank and China. During the three-day visit between 3 and 6 February 2010, he and his Chinese hosts shared their views on the ways and means of improving that cooperation. The Bank’s president visited Beijing as well as Shengzhu,China’s centre for new technology.

02/12/2009 - Le vice-président du Groupe de la Banque africaine de développement (BAD) chargé des opérations sectorielles, M. Kamal El Kheshen, et l’ambassadeur du Mali en Tunisie, M. Mbarakou Arafa Askia Touré, ont signé, le mardi 1er décembre 2009 à Tunis, un accord portant sur un prêt supplémentaire d’un montant équivalent à 7 milliards FCFA, octroyé par la Banque pour soutenir le programme d’appui à la stratégie pour la réduction de la pauvreté et la croissance (PASRPC) au Mali et pour atténuer les effets des conséquences de la crise internationale sur le pays.

18/11/2009 - A High-Level Forum on Public Procurement Reforms concluded deliberations on Tuesday 17 November 2009 in Tunis, with the adoption of the “Tunis Declaration on Public Procurement Reforms in Africa”. The Declaration affirms Africa’s priorities with regard to procurement reforms in the coming years.

17/11/2009 - the African Development Bank (AfDB) is hosting in Tunis the high-level forum on public procurement reforms in Africa. The forum is an opportunity for African governments (and the IFIs) to discuss and agree on the process that will emphasize African priorities regarding the use of procurement systems in African countries as a mandatory means for medium- and long-term development policy. To facilitate the use of national procurement systems and conform to the AAA requirement, the AfDB is finalizing a new strategy in this regard.

12/11/2009 - The topic of Poverty and Inequality was tackled by a group of researchers and economists. “Growth, Poverty and Inequality in Ethiopia: Which Way for Pro-Poor Growth?” was the title of the first presentation by Alemayehu Geda, Abebe Shimeles, and John Weeks. They discussed mechanisms and conditions by which economic growth translated into poverty reduction.
