President of Malagasy Republic visits AfDB headquarters

The President of the Republic of Madagascar, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, paid a courtesy call on the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina on Saturday 22 July 2017 at the Bank’s headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The Head of the Malagasy State, who was in the Ivorian capital city to attend the opening ceremony of the 8th Francophone Games, signed the guest book and expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome accorded him. He related this to the good relationships between Madagascar and the African Development Bank.

Adesina commended President Rajaonarimampianina’s efforts in speeding up development in his country.

The AfDB intends to deepen cooperation with Madagascar over the next three to four years, putting emphasis on the development of the energy and agriculture sectors. It also plans to help the country achieve self-sufficiency food production in ten years and become a food exporter.

Over the past 50 years, AfDB has contributed to the development of Madagascar and has committed US $1.8 billion in the following areas: roads, agriculture, mining, energy, drinking water, health, education and governance.

The active portfolio of the AfDB in Madagascar currently includes 10 operations, amounting to US $250 million.
