28/09/2011 - The African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) held its fourth special session in Bamako, Mali on 15-16 September 2011 to discuss and consolidate the common African negotiating position on a comprehensive climate change regime beyond 2012. They also worked to prepare for the Rio+20 Sustainable Development Conference to take place in June 2012. The African Development Bank (AfDB) consulted on its draft report on the Africa Green Fund as mandated by the African Union Summit of July 2011.

Africa has long been under-represented in those markets, receiving only 2 percent of the $2-3 billion traded annually through the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), the recognized broker for carbon emissions trading.
