20/06/2011 - African delegations from Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, and Tunisia will attend the CIF (Climate Investment Funds) Partnership Forum on 24-25 June in Cape Town, South Africa to share experiences with fellow CIF pilot countries from around the world. Burkina Faso, the DRC, Morocco, Mozambique, and Zambia will also be there for the learning and to present their CIF investment plans and projects for approval at closed CIF committee meetings coupled with the forum. Kenya and Mali will also present their investment plans for initial feedback.

09/06/2011 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has officially made this year’s Annual Meetings in Lisbon, Portugal, carbon friendly. This announcement follows acquisition of carbon credits after an investment in a composting project, in Cape Town, South Africa.

08/04/2011 - The project will generate roughly 960,000 tons of sugarcane per year that will be used to produce 83,000 cubic meters (83 million liters) of anhydrous ethanol for export and possibly domestic consumption; and 165 Giga-Watt hour (GWh) of electricity of which roughly 100 GWh will be delivered to the domestic market.

12/01/2011 - In 2010, the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group operations approvals by sector continued to reflect the institution’s 2008-2012 Medium-Term strategy, which set infrastructure sector as its operational focus, along with governance, private sector, higher education and technology. In 2010, the AfDB's investments in the infrastructure sector should account for two thirds of its total operations.

10/12/2010 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) President, Donald Kaberuka, has reiterated the need for a comprehensive post-2012 Kyoto agreement on climate change acceptable to all, and underscored the importance of the Africa Green Fund being established by the AfDB, to mobilize resources in support efforts to mitigate the disastrous impact of volatile weather conditions across the continent.

10/12/2010 - African Ministers attending the Cancun COP 16 Conference called again for the early establishment of an Africa Green Fund (AGF). This echoed an earlier call by African leaders in Copenhagen in December 2009 for a funding mechanism that sets aside resources for Africa, provides enhanced direct access, and equitable and transparent allocation of resources to be managed by the African Development Bank.

10/12/2010 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) joined representatives from other multilateral development banks (MDB) on Monday, 6 December 2010, in a joint side event on “Scaling-up International Climate Finance” during the ongoing COP16 Climate Conference. It was an opportunity to share with stakeholders how MDBs are collaborating to expand access to international financing and bolster investments in climate change mitigation and adaptation.
