22/02/2013 - The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) has announced an agreement to provide Nigeria with US $50 million to support an African Development Bank-supported program of financial intermediation for renewable energy and energy efficiency through local banks, as part of the country’s national Investment Plan endorsed by the CIF in 2010. The money, being provided under the CIF’s Clean Technology Fund (CTF), is designated to stimulate alternative and efficient ways to generate electricity and to reduce dependence on energy sources which contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions.

22/02/2013 - The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) has approved a grant of US $950,000 to help Nigeria prepare for a proposed project to revamp Abuja’s mass transit system. The request for the project preparation money was submitted to the CIF by the Government of Nigeria and the African Development Bank (AfDB). This is the first time the CIF has approved a sustainable transport project preparation grant within Africa, and marks the way forward for the transport sector as part of the AfDB and CIF work to help Africa move toward low-carbon and climate-resilient development.

16/05/2012 - The Boards of Directors of the African Development Bank Group today in Tunis approved the equivalent of USD 436 million for the financing of Morocco’s power project, and two other investments in Africa. The first approval is an AfDB loan of Euro 168 million and USD 100 million Clean Technology Fund concessionary loan to finance the first phase of the Ouarzazate solar power station in Morocco.

28/09/2011 - Even though Africa contributes roughly 7% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the continent can play an important role in mitigating the GHGs emissions and reducing the harmful impacts of climate change. Determining which actions to take is a complex process, but developing nations have been given latitude to propose nationally appropriate measures to contribute to global mitigation efforts while taking into account their development objectives.

28/09/2011 - The African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) held its fourth special session in Bamako, Mali on 15-16 September 2011 to discuss and consolidate the common African negotiating position on a comprehensive climate change regime beyond 2012. They also worked to prepare for the Rio+20 Sustainable Development Conference to take place in June 2012. The African Development Bank (AfDB) consulted on its draft report on the Africa Green Fund as mandated by the African Union Summit of July 2011.
