26/08/2011 - The African Development Bank and other lenders have committed USD91.25 million to the development of the Kivuwatt power project in Rwanda, under a loan agreement signed with ContourGlobal, a project developer, on Wednesday, 24 August 2011 in Kigali. The project’s total cost is USD 142.2 million. Development Finance Institutions will contribute USD 91 million, of which the AfDB will provide USD 25 million.

15/07/2011 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a technical cooperation agreement with the Government of Denmark for the establishment of a sustainable energy fund for Africa (SEFA) for capacity building and investment in sustainable energy over a five-year period. The budget for the fund is set at a DKK 300 million (equivalent to USD 57 million).

08/07/2011 - Energy and climate experts sought ways to help Africa grab a greater share of world carbon markets at the Africa Carbon Forum, held in Marrakech, Morocco, on 4-6 July 2011. Africa has long been under-represented in those markets, receiving only 2 percent of the $2-3 billion traded annually through the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), the recognized broker for carbon emissions trading.

19/05/2011 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, the Interntional Finance Corporation (IFC)-a member of the World Bank Group), and the Netherlands Development Finance Company (FMO), are investing €66 million in the Dibamba Power Development Company to help it build an 86-megawatt powerplant that will ensure reliable electricity supply and improve energy security in Cameroon.

27/04/2011 - The African Development Bank (AfBD) has won the “Best Financial Support in the Power Sector” award presented by Terrapinn in South Africa. The award recognized the Bank’s range of exceptional financial services for the development of projects. The awards were announced during the Power and Electricity World Africa 2011 conference, which took place in Cape Town from March 28 through April 1.

08/04/2011 - The project will generate roughly 960,000 tons of sugarcane per year that will be used to produce 83,000 cubic meters (83 million liters) of anhydrous ethanol for export and possibly domestic consumption; and 165 Giga-Watt hour (GWh) of electricity of which roughly 100 GWh will be delivered to the domestic market.

27/01/2011 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional window of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, approved on 21 January 2011, a USD 23-million grant to finance a rural electrification project in Guinea. The project will enable 60,000 rural people in 31 communities to access electric power along the national interconnected grid.
