18/06/2012 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a USD 18 million private equity investment in infrastructure in sub-Saharan Africa. The recipient of the investment is the InfraCo Sub-Saharan Infrastructure Fund (ISSIF), aiming at target capitalization of USD 200 million of equity with a first closing of USD 100 million expected third quarter 2012 to participate in greenfield and brownfield infrastructure projects. The ISSIF will catalyze additional funds for infrastructure projects, which will create employment and bring essential skills and technical knowledge to sub-Saharan Africa.

07/06/2012 - The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Donald Kaberuka, has received the United States Treasury Inaugural Development Impact Honors Award bestowed on the Mali-Senegal Road project, one of the Bank Group’s Regional multinational projects.

16/03/2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Kenyan government signed loan and grant agreements totaling some USD 336 million in support of clean energy and road infrastructure development in Kenya on 12 March. The financial package includes a USD 186.7 million loan for the Mombasa-Nairobi-Addis Ababa Road Corridor Project and a USD 149.5 million loan and grant financing for the Menengai Geothermal Development Project.

07/03/2012 - The African Development Bank‘s (AfDB) Board of Directors has approved a €58 million loan (equivalent to FCFA 38 billion) towards the financing of the construction, operation and maintenance of the 1.9 km-long Henri Konan Bédié Toll Bridge to be built over the Ébrié lagoon in Abidjan, in what will be the Bank’s first private sector operation in the country in more than a decade. Today’s Board approval marks AfDB’s strong commitment to lead and actively contribute to Côte d’Ivoire’s reconstruction efforts following the decade-long political conflict that adversely affected the country’s essential infrastructure.

02/02/2012 - Lack of political will is slowing down implementation of vital regional infrastructure projects in Africa, the president of the African Development Bank has said. Addressing the opening of the 18th African Union Summit in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, earlier this week, Dr Donald Kaberuka said the lack of inter-country cooperation, rather than funding, was often the main barrier to the launch and completion of critical regional infrastructure projects in Africa. This, he said, had a negative impact on the growth of the intra-African trade. ‘Boosting Intra-African Trade’ was the theme of the summit.

19/12/2011 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group approved, on 16 December, funding of USD 107.4 million for the construction of the Trans-Gambia Bridge and Cross Border Improvement Project. The financing package, which is being extended through the African Development Fund (ADF), the African Development Bank Group’s concessionary lending window, comprises an outright grant of USD 102.3 million and ADF concessionary resources of USD 5.1 million.

29/11/2011 - La Banque africaine de développement (BAD) et la République du Togo ont signé, ce mardi 29 novembre 2011, deux protocoles d’accord portant sur un montant global de plus de 81 milliards de Francs CFA. Le vice-président de la BAD en charge des opérations sectorielles, Kamal El Kheshen, et le ministre togolais de l’Economie et des finances, Adji Otèth Ayassor, ont signé les accords, respectivement pour la BAD et pour le Togo.

11/11/2011 - Agriculture has been identified as a priority sector for economic growth and poverty reduction in the Democratic Republic of Congo. To this effect, a grant for a Rural Infrastructure Development Support Project approved on 11 November 2011 in Tunis by the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, will enhance the government’s effort to improve food security and poverty reduction.
