26/03/2013 - The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) and its partners has launched a business plan competition called the West Africa Forum for Clean Energy Financing (WAFCEF/the Forum) to identify promising regional entrepreneurs and unlock renewable energy and energy efficiency investments in West Africa. Sponsors of the initiative include the US Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Regional Clean Energy Investment Initiative (RCEII), ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the Climate Technology Initiative Private Financing Advisory Network (CTI PFAN).

06/02/2013 - The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) has approved a US $1 million grant to finalize pre-investment activities for a hybrid renewable energy project in Nosy Be Island in Madagascar. The grant will be used to finance: (i) feasibility studies for a combination of hydro, wind and solar technologies; (ii) technical assistance to the national power utility; (iii) the transactions advisory for a Public Private Partnership. Through this intervention, the African Development Bank (AfDB) will play a catalytic role and pave the way for private investors and other financiers to work towards delivering a sustainable energy solution with huge socio-economic impacts on the island.

27/08/2012 - The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), a joint initiative of the Danish government and the Energy, Environment and Climate Change Department (ONEC) of the African Development Bank (AfDB), approved on August 17 its first grant of USD 825,000 to finance the concept phase of the Green Tech Financial Facility – a vehicle for investments in private-sector driven green technology projects – including market scoping and positioning studies, fund conceptualization and fund manager selection.

15/07/2011 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a technical cooperation agreement with the Government of Denmark for the establishment of a sustainable energy fund for Africa (SEFA) for capacity building and investment in sustainable energy over a five-year period. The budget for the fund is set at a DKK 300 million (equivalent to USD 57 million).
