19/02/2013 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has launched an ambitious program to significantly improve data management and dissemination in Africa. The ultimate goal of the program is to facilitate wider public access to official statistics and to support countries in their efforts to improve data quality and dissemination for better policy formulation, monitoring and evaluation. The program was launched in November 2012 as part of the Bank’s broader statistical capacity building program in Africa.

31/10/2011 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) recently approved a loan of USD 8 Million to finance the Lake Harvest Aquaculture project on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe. This loan will help Lake Harvest Aquaculture expand its tilapia fish farming significantly and provide an important supply of affordable protein to the sub region. In total, development finance institutions together, in partnership with the AfDB, are providing USD 20 million in loans towards the project.

27/06/2011 - The Southern Africa region loomed large on the Bank’s operational radar in 2009, when loan and grant approvals to the countries climbed to USD 5.44 billion (UA 3.40 billion), from USD 769.44 million (UA 475.9 million) the previous year; representing over 600 percent increase. The numbers were propelled by two budget support loans amounting to USD 2.42 billion (UA1.51 billion) approved for Botswana and Mauritius, to help mitigate the impact of the global economic and financial crisis in these countries.

25/03/2011 - The African Development (AfDB) Group’s effort in Zimbabwe’s economic recovery has received a major boost with the publication of a comprehensive infrastructure development action-plan for strong and sustained growth in the country. The 342-page report titled “Infrastructure and Growth in Zimbabwe - An Action Plan for Sustained Strong Growth” has been endorsed by an informal AfDB Board.

15/03/2011 - African Development Bank (AfDB) President Donald Kaberuka has affirmed his institution’s strong commitment to enhancing regional integration and growth in Southern Africa. Addressing the media close to the end of a six-day official visit to the region, Dr. Kaberuka said the AfDB had done well in terms of the volume of its support to South Africa and the broader SADC region but still had to do more in view of the challenges that still abound.

07/03/2011 - The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Mr. Donald Kaberuka, today called on Zimbabwe’s Government of National Unity to reduce economic policy uncertainties that could undermine the country’s recent economic recovery. He urged the government to implement policies that would boost confidence in order to keep momentum. Mr. Kaberuka was launching the Multi Donor Trust Fund, managed by the AfDB. On a 24-hour visit to Zimbabwe, Mr. Kaberuka also announced the opening of the Bank’s Zimbabwe Country Office and discussed the state of the economy with local authorities, including progress on a framework for the country’s multilateral debt.
