16/05/2012 - An African Development Bank (AfDB) mission is currently in Khartoum, Sudan, working with Government authorities and other stakeholders to develop a program intended to build resilience to droughts and provide sustainable livelihoods in the Greater Horn of Africa (GHOA). The mission is headed by AfDB livestock specialist, Umar Lawal, together with Abdul B. Kamara, AfDB’s Resident Representative for Sudan, and various experts from the AfDB and from the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

28/03/2012 - On 28 March 2012, the African Development Bank held a national consultation meeting on the Bank’s Long Term Strategy (LTS) for 2013 yo 22, which is currently being formulated, in Khartoum, Sudan. The meeting is part of a broader outreach through a series of regional and national level consultations that the Bank is holding to solicit inputs into its LTS.

25/09/2011 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of South Sudan today signed a general cooperation agreement that will make it possible for the AfDB to extend financial and technical support to South Sudan pending its full membership of the African Development Bank.

19/07/2011 - South Sudan became an independent country and Africa’s 54th sovereign nation on 9 July, 2011. The Government of South Sudan looks forward to welcoming the thousands of South Sudanese across Africa and the Diaspora who wish to return home. In its efforts to encourage the people of South Sudan to take ownership of the governance and development of this new nation, the government and its international partners are proactively addressing the ‘human capacity gaps’ in the civil service in both federal and local government agencies.

20/05/2011 - The Government of Southern Sudan has formally applied for membership in the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group. The territory’s finance and economic planning minister, David Deng Athorbei, urged the institution to expedite action on the membership process, building on the positive and ongoing role the Bank Group is playing in South Sudan.

18/04/2011 - A third Sudan Roundtable, a forum launched by the World Bank to promote broad partnership in support of Sudan’s development, was held during the World Bank/IMF Spring Meetings. The event was co-chaired by the President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Donald Kaberuka, and the Vice President of the Africa Region of the World Bank, Ms. Obiageli Ezekwesili.
