15/02/2013 - The Chairman of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), Eltigani Seisi Ateem, called on the African Development Bank Group President, Donald Kaberuka, on February 14, 2013 in Tunis. According to Ateem, the African Development Bank Group will champion the upcoming high-profile Donor Pledging Conference for Darfur in Doha in early April. He expressed the need for the Bank’s technical assistance to DRA.

14/02/2013 - The African Development Bank paid homage to indigenous peoples in Africa by way of a forum organized on the 11 and 12 February themed « Forum on Indigenous Peoples’ Development in Africa ». For two days, experts discussed the development stakes concerning autochthonous populations. The essence of the discussions was to come forward with realistic solutions to questions concerning their birthright, the preservation of their environment and even more so their inclusion to the global development process in their respective regions.

Nobel Prize-winner, Professor Muhammad Yunus, will give a speech in the African Development Bank’s (AfDB) Eminent Speakers Series on March 12, 2013 in Tunis. The topic of Prof. Yunus’ speech, the 19th in the series which began in 2005, will be “Building Social Business in Africa: the new kind of capitalism that serves society’s most pressing needs.”

11/02/2013 - Le ministre sénégalais de l’Hydraulique et de l’Assainissement, Oumar Guèye, était en visite de travail le 6 février à la Banque africaine de développement (BAD) à Tunis, où il a rencontré le Président, Donald Kaberuka. Kaberuka et son hôte ont évoqué les modalités de financement pour 2014 du projet sectoriel d’eau et d’assainissement au Sénégal. D’un montant de 40 millions d’Unités de compte, soit environ 46 milliards de FCFA, ce projet s’inscrit dans le cadre du Fonds de l’Initiative pour l’approvisionnement en eau et assainissement.

The Independent Evaluation Department of the AfDB has launched an evaluation of the Bank’s microfinance operations: Fostering Inclusive Growth in Africa: An Evaluation of the Bank’s Microfinance Policy, Strategy, and Projects, 2000-2012. Against this backdrop, the AfDB Evaluation Community of Practice (ECoP) will be hosting a talk on Financial Access for the Poor – Why it matters & where we are in the journey The talk will focus on why financial access matters for the poor; increasingly robust impact evidence; and progress and opportunities going forward.
