10/12/2012 - Le Ministre d’Etat au Plan et à l’Economie, Abdou Karim Meckassoua et le Représentant Résident de la BAD en Centrafrique, Modibo Sangare, ont signé un accord de prêt et deux protocoles de don du premier sous-programme en eau potable et assainissement d’une valeur de 12 milliards de FCFA, en présence du Ministre de l’Hydraulique et de l’Energie, Léopold Mboli-Fatran, représentant le secteur bénéficiaire.

10/12/2012 - An estimated 150,000 people from pastoral communities, including students and teachers from six schools based in Kenya’s Baringo, Kiambu West and Laikipia districts, are to benefit from a €690,000 grant from the African Water Facility (AWF) signed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) on Friday, December 7, after being approved on July 6, 2012.

05/12/2012 - Over 750,000 people from three Darfur states will have improved access to water supply and sanitation through a €3.3 million African Water Facility (AWF) grant. The project was recently launched during two separate ceremonies held on November 25 in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, and on November 29 in El Fasher, North Darfur State capital.

14/11/2012 - The Governor of Taraba State, Danbaba Suntai, on October 24, and the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, on November 1, launched the Urban Water and Sanitation Improvement Project – with an African Development Bank loan of approximately US $100 million for the rehabilitation, expansion and construction of water and sanitation facilities in Jalingo, Taraba State, and Ibadan, a city located in Oyo State, Nigeria. The project will improve access to clean water and sanitation for an estimated 1.5 million people.

13/11/2012 - Representatives of various local, regional and international development agencies and from different levels of Government met in Ouagadougou to discuss the funding of a sanitation project in the peri-urban areas of Ouagadougou, estimated at €138 million (FCFA 90.5 billion). This project should be completed by 2017 and is expected to improve the lives of an estimated one million people living in the most vulnerable areas of the city.

07/11/2012 - Guinea will benefit from assistance estimated at US $639.2 million in end-December 1999 net present value terms, aimed at reducing the country’s external debt burden to sustainable levels following the country’s attainment of the completion point under the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPCs) Initiative. By reaching the completion point, Guinea also benefits from additional debt cancellation under the Multilateral Debt Relief Initiative (MDRI).

05/11/2012 - 13 communes des départements de l’Atacora et de Donga au Bénin, verront leur capacité à réaliser et gérer efficacement des infrastructures et services d’eau potable et d’assainissement améliorée grâce à un don de 1 million d’euros de la Facilité africaine de l'eau (FAE) pour soutenir un projet de PROTOS Bénin. Ce don a été approuvé par la Banque africaine de développement (BAD) le 25 octobre 2012, et le projet devrait bénéficier à près de 900 000 habitants.

01/10/2012 - Compared to the rest of the country, southern Madagascar experiences cyclical droughts that threaten the population’s food security. In general, the country’s agricultural performance has remained weak, mainly due to low yields, poor basic infrastructure and lack of rural credit. To overcome these constraints, the government has developed sector policies and strategies that notably provide for the rehabilitation of irrigation areas such as the Lower Mangoky Scheme.

26/09/2012 - The African Development Bank approved on August 29, an African Water Facility (AWF) grant of €950,000 to support a project to help the Government of Zambia develop, test and adopt updated guidelines, which will be used as framework for programming as well as designing the financing, construction and operations of multi-purpose small dams. The dams are expected to directly improve the lives and livelihoods of an estimated 90,000 people, and indirectly benefit about a million people living in rural areas, thus enhancing water security in more vulnerable parts of the country.
