07/03/2011 - In January 2010, the African Development Bank (AfDB) accepted the Government of Zimbabwe’s request that it deepen and broaden its analytical knowledge base in Zimbabwe. That knowledge base had been depleted during the decade-long economic and political crisis in the country. The report, “Infrastructure and Growth in Zimbabwe: An Action Plan for Strengthened Recovery,” was released today, 7 March 2011, at an international investors’ conference in Harare.

22/07/2010 - The Bank’s enhanced presence in Zimbabwe will greatly strengthen its capacity to play a lead role in the collective dialogue in Zimbabwe and to provide advice and support to the Inclusive Government to ensure that Zimbabwe continues on the path of reforms and reengagement with the international community. Enhancing Bank presence in Zimbabwe is in line with the Bank’s decentralization policy.

24/02/2010 - In response to a request from the Chitungwiza Municipality, the African Development Bank (AfDB), acting in their capacity as Trustee of the African Water Facility (AWF), has approved grant funding from the Facility to support the rehabilitation of water supply and sanitation infrastructure and services in Chitungwiza Municipality, the second largest community in Zimbabwe and a hot spot for cholera epidemics, to address the many challenges facing the Municipality in the water sector caused by the deterioration of the installations.

26/05/2009 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group Executive Board of Directors today discussed a concept note proposing a short-term strategy for the AfDB to help Zimbabwe address the challenges it faces and to support the country’s re-engagement with the international community. Directors expressed firm support for the strategy and applauded the initiatives taken by the AfDB President and management, noting that the Bank should play a leading role, as it has, indeed, been requested by African countries.
