La forêt équatoriale du Bassin du Congo est la deuxième au monde, en termes de superficie, après le bassin amazonien. Elle constitue l’écosystème le plus riche de la région et abrite plus de la moitié des plantes et des animaux sauvages du continent. Elle s’étale sur plusieurs pays d’Afrique centrale (Cameroun, Gabon, Rep. Centrafricaine, Congo-Brazza-ville et R.D. du Congo).

The Dakar International Agriculture Forum, which took place from 18-19 April in Senegal, addressed the fundamental issues of global agriculture regulation and governance. The forum, initiated by President Abdoulaye Wade, comes a month before the next G20 meeting. According to its organizers, "the conclusions that emerge from the Forum will form, without doubt, an essential input to the current international negotiations in the G20, led by France.

The Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) will organize a workshop to review Technical and Vocational Skills Development (TVSD) initiatives and experiences in Africa, from March 24-26, in Ouagadougou. Increasing women’s access to infrastructure services (energy, transport, water and irrigation), is crucial for women’s economic empowerment and well-being. In 2007 the Multilateral Development Banks Working Group on Gender agreed to jointly enhance the efforts to mainstream a gender perspective into their respective operations in these sectors. To this end it initiated regional workshops to build the capacity of sector experts in the client countries and respective institutions.

To this end, the Bank will from 21-22 March 2011, host an international seminar on strategic environment and social assessments (SESA). The seminar aims at deepening the AfDB’s implementation of more environmentally and socially sustainable projects and programmes. Coodinated by the Compliance and Safeguards Division, the seminar will bring together at Hotel Sharaton, Tunis, leading international agencies involved in implementing strategic environmental and social assessments.
