Objectives
The principal project objectives are: - Expansion of access to and equity in primary education; - Improvement in quality and efficiency of primary education provision
Verifiable indicators include:
(i) Increased GER and attendance rates;
(ii) Decreased repetition rates and improved examination performance;
(iii) Increased transition rates to higher levels of education;
(iv) Improvement in textbook to pupil ratios and availability of other educational materials
Benefits
The Project will benefit both disadvantaged communities in rural and urban areas. Educational facilities will become available in areas where currently none are present and existing facilities will be improved, enabling them to expand capacity and offer higher standards of education. The facilities to be established will be designed to accommodate both male and female pupils, thereby encouraging female enrolment. In addition, policy, planning and management will be improved through the development of the Education Management Information System.
Inputs provided through other components of the ESDP will be complementary to those undertaken in the Project. New curricula will be developed, teacher training will be provided, educational materials published and distributed, and support provided for education administration and management.
