Objectives

The objective of the project is to reduce electricity losses, improve the reliability of power supply and increase the population's access to electricity in Kumasi.

Rationale

The distribution system has average percentage losses of 24% which are above industry standards. Losses in Kumasi and Accra/Tema, which consume 70% of distributed electricity, are higher than the average and stand at around 29%. Reduction of losses in these two areas will therefore improve the financial situation of the distribution company, Electricity Corporation of Ghana.

Benefits

The project will bring the following benefits:

(i) allow improved access to electricity,

(ii) more reliable electricity supply,

(iii) improvement in the financial situation of electric utilities,

(iv) reduction in carbon emissions.
