Description
The project involves upgrading the existing gravel road between Thaba Tseka and Qacha's Nek to bitumen standards. The total length is approximately 150 km, currently split into four sections:
Section I - Thaba Tseka to Sehonghong.
Section II - Sehonghong to Matebeng
Section III - Matebeng to Ha Mojaki
Section IV - Ha Mojaki to Qacha's Nek
Objectives
The objective of the project is to improve access to the remote mountain area to the east of the country.
Rationale
The proposed project is in line with the Governments transport sector policy of providing better access to regional headquarters and thus integrating the rural communities into the social-economic development of the country, as well as stimulating agricultural production in the project's sphere of influence.
Benefits
The key benefits to be derived from the project are reduction in vehicle operating costs. Other benefits include enhanced agricultural production within the project area, travel time savings and employment which will be generated during the implementation of the project.
