Description

The estimated project cost including the fuel storage facility is MUR3.65 billion. CEB has awarded the consultancy contract to an engineering firm to (a) prepare the detailed design and tender documents (b) supervise the construction of power plant and supply and installation of generating units at the power plant. It has already received an EIA license for the redevelopment of the St. Louis power plant.

This CEB has accorded top priority to implement this project because (a) engines have run their useful life and air emissions and noise pollution levels exceed the national standards. The CEB anticipates awarding the EPC contract by June 2014. The estimated time to commission this project is 15 months

Rationale

The redevelopment of the Saint Louis power plant is required for meeting the peaking demand in the country. Besides, the existing engines have outlived their useful life, which causes high O&M expenditure to CEB. The vibrations and noise pollution levels have exceeded the acceptable limits. There is need to replace these aging engines, to provide a stable power supply to consumers.

Benefits

The project will benefit all consumers including but not limited to domestic, tourism industry, businesses, and women across the board.
