Description
The project consists of:-
a) The civil works for the upgrading the existing gravel road between Mliba and Msahweni to bitumen standard; and,
b) Consultancy services for the supervision of construction of the road.
Objectives
The primary objective of the project is to reduce road transport costs by upgrading roads which carry high traffic volumes in the country.
Rationale
The Bank is already involved in the improvement of the transport sector in the country, which is accorded high priority in the Bank's CSP. This project is the result of studies financed by the Bank.
Benefits
The project will reduce vehicle operating costs and cost burden imposed by the existing situation, as well as stimulate economic activity in the road's area of influence.
