Description
PROJECT DESCRIPTION THE activities under the study may be summarized as follows:
(i)Review of organizational and institutional arrangements and division of functions;
(ii)Review of current selection and prioritization of investment projects in the sector;
(iii)Review of existing systems, available data, studies and feasibility reports;
(iv)Prepare a phased program of investments in each of the sub-sectors;
(v)Recommend an appropriate organizational and institutional development plan;
(vi)Recommend an appropriate policy implementation plan; (vii)Prepare a transportation master plan for a 10-year time horizon.
Objectives
To prepare a transportation master plan covering a period of ten years (2011 - 2021)
Rationale
PROJECT RATIONALE
Provision of adequate transportation infrastructure is a key cross-cutting issue in three of six identified pillars of the country's development. The country's development process is dependent on the provision of efficient transport infrastructure, stimulating economic development and further enhancing increased levels of productivity, income and consumption that eventually results in an improvement in the standard of living of the population. The proposed study will support support the same areas identified for Bank's strategic support for the country, anchored under two pillars of the 2009-2013 Country Strategic Paper (CSP):
(i) Investing in infrastructure to Improve productivity and Competitiveness; and
(ii) Enhancing Health Delivery and Skills Development .
Benefits
BENEFICIARIES The main beneficiaries of the project include the Government of Swaziland, transport industry, business community, and the population in general, since the study will contribute for a balanced development of transportation infrastructure in the country.
