Description

Construction of a 132 kv transmission line from Nkula Falls in Malawi to Tete in Mozambique, approx. 190 km. New considerations may influence the choice of voltage level


Objectives

Promoting regional cooperation and significantly reducing possible major costs by delaying construction of large generation facilities. It will also replace local diesel generation facilities saving diesel fuel expenses, as well as electrifying new areas.


Rationale

The project is the least cost option as established by the feasibility study.


Benefits

The study when completed will assist the governments of Mozambique and Malawi to determine whether or not the project is feasible to supply the areas.
