Description

A program of Microfinance training aimed at Senior Managers from Central Banks, Ministries of Finance, MFIs, DFIs, NGOs, and private sector.

Rationale

This is a pilot operation focusing on the design of the program as well as the actual training component. The project will be documented for replication and scalability in other regions. Training and capacity building of this nature are inherently not self-sustaining and require grant resources. Cost-sharing, co-pay and additional resource mobilization by sponsors and participants will be encouraged.

Benefits

The overall objective of this TA is to improve the enabling environment for microfinance in the region. The MF program will help effectuate application to national development policy and regulatory frameworks. Progress toward this outcome will be monitored through the Microfinance Committee in each of the 19 member countries of COMESA. It is expected that there will be a knowledge product following the end of the seminar. This publication will be widely distributed to all COMESA member states and initiatives under way to have the seminar details available in DVDs and in e-learning format.
