Rationale

The project is rated as the least cost project in the Southern Africa Power Pool. Therefore, it is a priority project of SAPP and there is considerable merit in implementing this project.


Benefits

Zambia has seen an upsurge in economic activity in the last five years. Zambia's annual GDP growth has averaged 5-6% compared to 3-4% GDP growth in the past.

The development of ITT power plant will help meet the growing demand of electricity of both industrial and domestic consumers in the country. The implementation of the power evacuation by the above date will be necessary to make the power available to economy.

The implementation of the project will help sustain the economic growth of the country.The plant is expected to be commissioned by 2013.
