01/10/2012 - Compared to the rest of the country, southern Madagascar experiences cyclical droughts that threaten the population’s food security. In general, the country’s agricultural performance has remained weak, mainly due to low yields, poor basic infrastructure and lack of rural credit. To overcome these constraints, the government has developed sector policies and strategies that notably provide for the rehabilitation of irrigation areas such as the Lower Mangoky Scheme.

10/09/2012 - The Community Agricultural Infrastructure Improvement Programme – Project I (CAIIP-1) resulted from a comprehensive review of Uganda’s agricultural sector, which was carried out in 2005 by the Ugandan government in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB). The review, which was undertaken under the auspices of Uganda's Plan for Modernization of Agriculture, identified a number of investment gaps especially with regard to infrastructure - for access to markets, and for agro-processing, environmental and natural resource management.

27/07/2012 - Casamance, located in southwestern Senegal, has been involved in a struggle for independence since the 1980s. The Rural Development Support Project in Casamance (PADERCA) falls within the framework of the Economic and Social Activities Revitalization Program in Casamance, established by the Senegalese government since 2004 and aims at supporting the restoration of peace in this part of the country.

17/07/2012 - The economic crisis of the 1980s, exacerbated by the armed conflicts of the 1990s in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has resulted in a drop in farmer assistance, desertion of farms and lack of maintenance of rural roads. This situation has specifically led to decreased productivity, difficulties in the supply of farm inputs and equipment, and increased inaccessibility to production areas, thus giving rise to food insecurity.

16/07/2012 - The Regional Project on Sustainable Management of Endemic Ruminant Livestock (PROGEBE) resulted from the will of The Gambia, Guinea, Mali and Senegal to implement preservation measures for the trypanotolerant livestock (Ndama cattle, Djallonké sheep and West African dwarf goat) and its natural habitat.

12/07/2012 - Senegal is a Sahelian country that relies heavily on agriculture. This sector faces weather vagaries and a decline in rainfall during recent decades (200 mm in 30 years). To address this situation and complete the development of the Senegal River valley, the Senegalese government sought to value runoff water resources available in the country.

08/05/2012 - Since 2006 the African Development Bank has been supporting the Rwanda government in restoring and improving the Rwandan fisheries sector. Support has been given to both capture fisheries in inland lakes and to aquaculture.

02/05/2012 - Traditional fishing in Madagascar is practiced at national level by around 59,000 fishermen mainly along the coast and within coral reefs, especially in the south-western province of Tulear. The radius of action of fishing canoes is below 10 km.
