Argentina

Partnership overview

Argentina became a member of the African Development Fund (ADF) in 1979 and of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in 1985. The country’s pledge to ADF-XII amounted to US $15 million.

Argentina is also considering strengthening further partnerships through a technical cooperation arrangement with the Bank Group. The country emphasizes the principles of solidarity and believes that middle income countries should contribute to development. Its main areas of interest are agro-industry and agricultural development.

During the AfDB’s 2010 Partnerships Forum in Tunis, the Government of Argentina met with the Director of the Agricultural Department to discuss further engagement through the provision of co-financing and technical assistance.

Joint initiatives

Argentina and the Bank Group are currently discussing further engagement in cooperation activities.

Argentina’s experience in the agriculture sector and the sharing of experiences with other Latin American countries can both be implemented on the African continent. So far, Argentina has proposed to contribute to training of African civil servants in the Ministry of Agriculture in Argentina, as well as co-financing of agriculture projects, particularly for research and extension services. Moreover, Argentina’s engagement in South-South cooperation through contribution to the South-South Cooperation Trust Fund is expected and discussions are ongoing.
