04/10/2012 - As many countries in Africa experience impressive economic growth, the continent has made significant gains in health such as an overall reduction in child mortality. However, gains made vary and certain segments of the population remain vulnerable. For example, while child mortality is on the decline in Uganda, the maternal mortality rate is still high and estimated at 435 deaths per 100,000 live births. About 30 per cent of households in the capital Kampala are run by women, meaning Uganda’s high maternal death rate has far reaching effects societally and economically.

10/09/2012 - Le Programme d‘amélioration de l’infrastructure agricole communautaire – Projet I (CAIIP-1) a été lancé à l’issue de la revue du secteur de l’agriculture et du développement rural de l’Ouganda, conduite en 2005 par le gouvernement ougandais en collaboration avec la Banque africaine de développement (BAD). Etant une émanation du Plan de modernisation de l’Agriculture, cette revue a identifié un déficit de financement des infrastructures, notamment, celles d’accès aux marchés, de transformation des produits agricoles, et de gestion de l’environnement et des ressources naturelles.

17/07/2012 - The Harar Water Supply and Sanitation Project, funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to the tune of 33 USD million, was inaugurated in the historic Ethiopian town on 8 July, during the celebration of International Harar Day.

10/04/2012 - Les ressources forestières du Burundi ont été sérieusement dégradées depuis le début de la crise socio-politique qu’a connue le pays ces dix dernières années. Ainsi, plus de 30.000 ha de boisement et 10.000 ha de forêts naturelles ont été détruits, ramenant le taux de couverture forestière du pays de huit pour cent à cinq pour cent.

01/04/2010 - Built in 1997, the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) is the first technological institute to be built in Rwanda to train students in science, technology and engineering at the degree and diploma levels. KIST also transfers appropriate technology to the community.
