15/12/2011 - After extended negotiations, the UN Climate Change Conference in Durban concluded with the adoption of the "Durban Platform," a set of decisions that lay the groundwork for adopting a legal agreement on climate change as soon as possible, and no later than 2015. Governments, including those from 35 industrialized countries, also agreed on a second commitment period under the Kyoto Protocol from 1 January 2013. Parties to this second period will submit their quantified emission limitation or reduction objectives for review by 1 May 2012.

23/11/2011 - An Ethiopia-Kenya hydropower interconnection project may be the first to benefit from work beginning conducted by the African Development Bank (AfDB), through the African Carbon Support Programme (ACSP), to develop a new Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) methodology that would make interstate electricity connection eligible for CDM revenue.

22/11/2010 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has launched a two-year technical assistance program - the African Carbon Support Program, which is being implemented by its Energy, Environment and Climate Change Department. The program, launched on 4 November 2010, is geared toward assisting Bank clients in regional member countries to access carbon finance in order to ensure the commercial viability of their investments.
