AfDB Resident Representative in Sudan Presents his Accreditation Letter to Sudanese Authorities

On 8 September 2007, Mr. Famara Jatta presented his letter of appointment as Resident Representative of the African Development Bank Group in Sudan to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity in Sudan, His Excellency Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin.

The ceremony was attended by Faiza Mohamed and Elfaith Khalid all of the Ministry of Finance and National Economy Planning.

In his discussion, the AfDB Representative informed the Minister that the primary function and responsibilities of the Sudan field office is to deepen the Bank Group’s dialogue with Sudan on policy reforms and to promote the economic and social development of the country. In this regard, the AfDB national office will focus on: aid coordination leading economic and sector work; providing assistance to the private sector, maintenance of effective relationship with stakeholders; supervising project and programme processing; and undertaking other related development activities in the country within the mandate of the office.

In response the Minister stated that the establishment of the national office is good for the African Development Bank Group and the Sudan. He thanked the Bank Group for assisting Sudan in its development endeavor by providing loans and grants. He reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to take all the necessary steps required to normalize the relationship with the Bank Group as soon as possible. Finally, he hoped that the Bank will support Sudan in finding a solution to deal with its overall arrears and debt problem.
