The project aims to help improve its capacity to develop human resources in Africa through distance education. This project is among NEPAD high priority Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Projects and will contribute to increased access to quality education in ten (10) countries while fostering regional integration. This multinational project will also contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

The VP El Bakri drew the attention to the fact that: "the achievement of project objectives depends on the quality of project implementation which calls for the full mobilization of all involved parties."

Mrs. El Bakri also mentioned that the Bank and the AVU chose to prepare a project through a participatory approach, that brought together public educational authorities, the private sector and AVU’s development partners.

"With the signing of the grant protocol agreement, the Bank and the AVU have opened a new chapter in cooperation that will be fruitful and beneficial for African development," concluded the VP.
