27/05/2012 - After months of collaboration and research, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and five other multilateral development banks (MDBs) have come to various agreements on a protocol and process for adaptation finance reporting. This is a move considered critical to the MDBs’ efforts to monitor and evaluate financial resources for climate change.

18/05/2012 - L’Afrique a connu une croissance économique rapide au cours de la dernière décennie. Les taux de croissance annuels sur le continent, qui étaient autour de cinq à six pour cent en moyenne ont régulièrement dépassé ceux des autres régions. La forte demande et les prix des matières premières ont été un facteur important de la croissance. Toutefois, les réformes macro-économiques, une plus grande stabilité politique et l'urbanisation accrue ont également vu se renforcer le secteur des services, la classe moyenne monter et un entreprenariat panafricain émerger.

Le changement climatique est une préoccupation majeure en Afrique, vraisemblablement plus que partout ailleurs. Les agriculteurs et éleveurs ont besoin de terres arables et d'eau. Aujourd'hui, l’expansion de l'agriculture, l'exploitation forestière et la nécessité de bois de chauffage amènent à défricher les forêts et entament la biodiversité.

08/05/2012 - Ethiopia’s efforts to increase energy efficiency and diversify its hydro-dependent energy mix through renewable energy got a USD 50 million boost from the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) committee meetings last week when Ethiopia’s investment plan under the Scaling Up Renewable Energy Program for Low Income Countries (SREP) was endorsed in full by CIF committee members.The decision came during the week-long CIF committee meetings in Washington, D.C. from 30 April to 4 May. As implementing agency of the CIF, the African Development Bank (AfDB) was there to bring African interests to the table.

03/05/2012 - Naguère exportateur de pétrole et de gaz, l’Égypte peine, de nos jours, à satisfaire ses propres besoins énergétiques. La croissance de la consommation d’énergie est induite par la croissance économique et l’industrialisation du pays, ainsi que par le changement de mode de vie de sa population. S’il est vrai que toutes les formes d’énergie ont enregistré un taux de croissance plutôt élevé, la consommation d’électricité a crû de manière exceptionnelle, suscitant de fortes préoccupations quant à l’éventail des combustibles utilisés par le secteur de l’énergie, à la dépendance accrue à l’égard du pétrole et au fardeau excessif qui pèse sur le budget de l’État. Ainsi, le gouvernement est résolu à diversifier les sources d’énergie et à accroître l’efficacité de la consommation d’électricité.

23/04/2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) joined some 125 representatives from developed and developing countries, implementing organizations and multilateral institutions at the Low Emissions Development Strategies (LEDS) Collaboration in Action workshop from 20-23 March 2012 outside of London, UK to advance a collaborative community of practice focused on promoting the low emission development agenda around the globe.

23/04/2012 - On 2 and 3 April 2012, Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Ghana joined other countries from around the world participating in the Forest Investment Program (FIP) in Brasilia, Brazil, for their third annual FIP pilot countries meeting. They shared innovations in investments to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) and discussed working with private sector, indigenous peoples and local communities.
