Increasing women’s access to infrastructure services (energy, transport, water and irrigation), is crucial for women’s economic empowerment and well-being. In 2007 the Multilateral Development Banks Working Group on Gender agreed to jointly enhance the efforts to mainstream a gender perspective into their respective operations in these sectors. To this end it initiated regional workshops to build the capacity of sector experts in the client countries and respective institutions.

La Banque africaine de développement (BAD) célébre le 8 mars 2011, à son agence temporaire de relocalisation à Tunis et dans ses bureaux extérieurs, le centenaire de la Journée internationale de la femme, avec la participation active de Mme Lalla Ben Barka, directrice générale adjointe de l'UNESCO, et Zohra Ben Lakhdar, professeure de physique à l'Université de Tunis et lauréate du prix L'Oréal UNESCO 2005 des femmes de science.

22/03/2011 - Today, H.E. Sufian Ahmed, Minister of Finance and Economic Development of Ethiopia, will lead the opening ceremony of a workshop on “Mainstreaming Gender Equality in the Infrastructure Sectors in Africa.” The Workshop will take place at the Hilton Hotel from March 22 to 24, 2011. The Workshop focuses on four key infrastructure sectors which are essential for growth and economic development: energy, irrigation, water and sanitation, and transport.
