23/11/2011 - An Ethiopia-Kenya hydropower interconnection project may be the first to benefit from work beginning conducted by the African Development Bank (AfDB), through the African Carbon Support Programme (ACSP), to develop a new Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) methodology that would make interstate electricity connection eligible for CDM revenue.

23/11/2011 - A project to develop a geothermal steam field at Menengai, Kenya got the go-ahead on 17 November 2011 from the governing body of the Scaling Up of Renewable Energy Program in Low Income Countries (SREP), a program coming under the Climate Investment Fund (CIF). It approved USD 25 million in grants and concessional loans which will be channeled through the African Development Bank (AfDB) along with the AfDB’s own co-financing of USD 80 million.

23/11/2011 - At its 41st Council Meeting held in Washington, D.C. on 9 and10 November 2011, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) approved a grant of USD 20.5 million for the Lake Chad Basin Regional Program for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Energy Efficiency.

23/11/2011 - Mali’s USD 40 million investment plan to scale up renewable energy was approved in principle by the Climate Investment Fund (CIF) governing bodies during their annual meetings from 31 October to 4 November 2011 in Washington, D.C. As an implementing agent of the CIF, the African Development Bank (AfDB) has worked closely with Mali to develop the plan under the CIF’s Scaling Up Renewable Energy Program in Low Income Countries (SREP).

11/11/2011 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group today approved a USD 71.1- million loan from African Development Fund’s resources to finance the Lom-Pangar Hydroelectric project in Cameroon. The project estimated to cost USD 419.2 million is jointly financed by five donors including the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, the Development Bank of Central African States and the French Development Agency.

Les populations sont très dispersées sur le contient pour que les réseaux énergétiques soient suffisants.
27/10/2011 - Les pays en développement, notamment africains n’ont pas une responsabilité engagée dans les émissions de CO2. Toutefois, cela ne doit pas les écarter de l’exploitation des ressources renouvelables. C’est le consensus qui s’est dégagé des discussions consacrées aux énergies renouvelables et aux questions environnementales de la Conférence économique africaine en cours, à Addis-Abeba.

26/09/2011 - Eskom et la Banque africaine de développement (BAD) ont signé, le 25 septembre 2011, deux accords de prêt pour une valeur totale de 365 millions de dollars EU destinés à financer la première mise en œuvre à grande échelle de production d’énergie éolienne et solaire renouvelable dans l'histoire d'Eskom.
