19/04/2013 - The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) in Zambia and the Zambia Agriculture Research Institute (ZARI), with support from the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA), successfully launched the African Development Bank-funded Multinational – Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Support to Agricultural Research for Development of Strategic Crops in Africa (SARD-SC) on April 16, 2013.

04/03/2013 - Studies on banking competition in developing countries, and especially in Africa, are sparse. This 2013 study, published by the Chief Economist Complex of the African Development Bank, evaluates the degree of competition in the Zambian banking sector in the wake of dynamic market shifts induced by financial reforms, entry of new foreign banks and privatization of the state-owned bank. Competition is measured using the Panzar-Rosse H-statistic and the Lerner index from 1998-2011. To our knowledge, estimation of the time varying bank-specific Lerner index provides the first-ever documented empirical evidence on the evolution of competition in the Zambian industry.

19/02/2013 - La Banque africaine de développement (BAD) a lancé un ambitieux programme, qui vise à améliorer de façon substantielle la gestion et la diffusion des données en Afrique. Objectif ultime de ce programme : favoriser un plus large accès du public aux statistiques officielles. Lancé en novembre 2012, dans le cadre d’une initiative plus vaste de la BAD visant à renforcer les capacités statistiques en Afrique, ce programme entend aussi appuyer les pays du continent dans les efforts qu’ils déploient pour améliorer la qualité et la diffusion des données, tout en facilitant l’élaboration, le suivi et l’évaluation des politiques à l’œuvre.

18/02/2013 - la Banque africaine de développement (BAD) et l’Organisation de coopération et de développement économiques (OCDE) ont co-organisé un atelier sur le thème : « Croissance verte en Afrique : concepts, outils et stratégies pour bâtir des économies plus vertes et un avenir durable ». Accueilli par le ministère zambien des ressources foncières, à Lusaka, en janvier 2013, l’atelier a reçu plus de 100 participants issus de 18 pays africains, y compris des représentants d’organisations bilatérales et multilatérales.

28/12/2012 - In his welcoming remarks the Zambian Minister of Finance and National Planning Alexander Chikwanda commended African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka for the support the Bank has provided since 1971 amounting to US $1.4 billion. The Minister also commended the Bank’s initiative and support on the Kazungula Bridge project, which links Botswana and Zambia over the Zambezi River.

27/12/2012 - The Governor of the Bank of Zambia, Michael Gondwe, commended African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka for his outstanding leadership and the Bank’s positive contribution to the economies of the continent. Gondwe’s comments came during a Bank of Zambia luncheon hosted in honour of Kaberuka, which was attended by former AfDB Bank President, Willa Mung’Omba (1980 to 1985), the former Governor of the Bank of Zambia, and former Government of Zambia Finance Ministers, among others.
