The tentative components of the project are:

(a) Civil works for;

The project from Rwanda side is the rehabilitation of the cyanika-Musanze road (28Km), located along the northern corridor linking with Uganda at Cyanika including the OSBP for the two countries.

(b) Consultancy services for:

(i) supervision of the two civil works for the above;

(ii) transport and trade facilitation

(iii)Road Safety;

(iv)Mitigation of HIV/AIDS, STI and TB; (vii)Monitoring of ESMP implementation and baseline data collection; (viii)Consulting Services for Technical and Financial Audit

The project development objectives are two-fold: at regional level, the objective is to contribute to improving road transportation and trade facilitation along the Northern Corridor via cyanika border; and at national level, the development objective is to contribute to improving transport services in the Musanze-cyanika area to stimulate and support local economic activities. The expected project outcomes are, improved transport services (reductions in vehicle operating costs and travel time); improved processing time for clearance of imports and exports, and improved safety.

Improvement of the road network reduces transport costs, travel time and provides benefits to communities through affordable transport thereby increasing their mobility and related economic activity. The primary beneficiaries are road users, traders and farmers. Important economic benefits to be derived as a result of road improvement include increase in agricultural production from the farm holdings within the road's zone of influence; regional integration and cross border trade between Uganda and Rwanda.
