Description

The project which will be implemented over a five year period has 4 strategic outcomes that include: Component 1: Improving access to STE. This component will help increase access to TEVET and HE and improve the level of participation in these institutions.

Component 2: Improving quality and relevance of STE. The component will provide training for 200 (80 women) under-qualified teaching staff in HE and 300 (120 women) TEVET lecturers.

Component 3: Enhancing Work-Based and Entrepreneurship skills. The component will support the capacity building of at least two thousand (2 ,000) school leavers and out-of-school youths.

Component 4: Project Management. This component will fund the operating cost of project implementation and conducting an impact evaluation. The total cost of the project is UA12.045.


Objectifs

The development objective of the project is to contribute to increased access and improved quality and equity of science and technology in the target institutions in line with Zambia's Vision 2030 priorities on Skills Development.


Justificatif

The rationale for the proposed intervention is to help address the challenges of lack of competitiveness and skills shortage that lead to youth University enrolment is projected to increase steadily to about 21 ,000 up to 2015 (figure 3). The absorptive capacity of HE Institutions is currently at 6% (19,086 students) of the total 300,000 students that graduate annually from post-secondary education. The GRZ intends to increase this capacity to above 15% by 2015. The TEVET institutions admit less than 2% of the output from basic and secondary education and the Government wishes to increase it to above 15% over the same period. The proposed intervention will help achieve this goal

GRZ, entire Zambia population especially youths in school, out- of- school including: females and people living with disabilities, teachers, staff, college administrators, managers, TEVETA, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, Higher Education and TEVET graduates, labour market and firms.
