Overview & key elements of interventions
- The African Development Bank Group commenced operations in Egypt in 1974.
- The Bank Group financing totals over USD 4.5 billion in all sectors of the country’s economy.
- Since its first intervention in 1974, the Bank has been involved in the development of the water and sanitation through interventions for drainage improvements in agricultural development.
- The ongoing operation in the water and sanitation sector fully comply with Egypt’s National Long Term Vision 2030, with its Medium Term Plan and the Bank’s Medium Term Strategy.
- The Bank’s current portfolio in the water and sanitation sector includes a) Gabal El Asfar Wastewater Treatment Plant Phase II Stage II Project and b) African Water Facility financed studies in the sector.
The ongoing operation is in line with the Bank’s 2008-2012 Medium Term Strategy and Egypt’s ongoing Sixth Five Year Development Plan (2007-12). It is also anticipated that the Bank will continue to be a key development partner in the Egyptian water and sanitation sector.
