Development Issues is a section presenting the African Development Bank's views on key issues that are critical to the development of African countries.
The private sector window of the Bank was established in 1991 with the objective of broadening the scope of development assistance to regional member countries (RMCs) in recognition of the important role of the private sector in stimulating economic growth and development. The growing role of Private Sector in achieving sustainable development and poverty alleviation is evident worldwide and recognized by the Bank's Vision. Under the Vision, the Bank considers private sector development as a major objective of its development activities.
At the request of the Heads of State Implementation Committee of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), the Bank has become involved in providing technical assistance and advisory services in support of the implementation of this Initiative. The objective of this paper is to provide background information on NEPAD and explain the role of the Bank.
