Kenya-THE INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE (KISGG)

The objective of the project is to assist the Government of Kenya to improve public financial management in the areas of procurement, and auditing, and also to intensify the fight against corruption. The project has three main components: Improving the Public Financial Management System, with special emphasis on three departments, namely: Procurement, Internal Audit and the National Audit Office; second, to strengthen the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission in its fight against corruption; and third, to enhance performance at the ADB desk in Kenya.

CAPE VERDE: SANTIAGO ISLAND WATERSHED MANAGEMENT AND REHABILITATION PROJECT

Some of the beneficiaries leaders felt that the project is most opportune for it will provide the project riparian dwellers with easier access to water and develop small scale irrigation to enhance their food security and substantially increase their incomes. Women have welcomed the project impact on their daily routine by reducing distances and the time spent on fetching water for household work and enabling them to generate income through market gardening.

Multinational: Fighting HIV/AIDS in the MANO River Basin Community

The focus of the project is to prevent the spread of new infections of STI/HIV/AIDS among refugees, internally displaced populations, and their host communities in the countries concerned and to provide psychosocial support to those living with HIV/AIDS. Globally, the project is intended to enable Mano River Basin Countries and Côte d’Ivoire to meet Objective 6 of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which seeks to stop and begin to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS by 2015.

RAILWAY REHABILITATION PROJECT IN MOROCCO: SIDI KACEM-MEKNES LINE

The purpose of the project is to improve Morocco’s rail transport infrastructure through the realignment and doubling of the Sidi Kacèm-Meknès line, and the reconstruction of Ourzigha Station. The project was approved on 2 December 1996 and signed on 20 May 1997.

The project had an impact on the education quality, even as it strengthened the steering capacity of the education system. The project strengthened previous achievements (extension of the education cover through the construction of education infrastructure) and improved the implementation of current and future operations (by strengthening the planning and management capacity).

SIERRA LEONE - HEALTH SERVICES REHABILITATION PROJECT

The project has been able to contribute to the sector’s goal of improving the health standards in Sierra Leone in terms of the quality and availability of health services. It has succeeded in the attainment of its objective which was to strengthen the quality of Sierra Leone’s health care delivery systems despite the enormous challenges of a deeply fractured economy and severely eroded social services. Indeed, increased provision of quality health care services will enable the country to accelerate the progress being made in the attainment of the MDGs, especially those pertaining to the health sector.

The Social Development Fund Project is an expression of the Government’s commitment to reduce poverty and stop the unending deterioration of the living conditions of the people as a result of the destruction of core infrastructure, the civil war (1990-1994) and natural disasters that the country has experienced in the last decade. The project also translates the efforts of Djibouti’s development partners to back the Government as it combats poverty within the framework of the national rehabilitation programme presented at the Donor Round Table held in Geneva in May 1997.
