Investment Instruments

The AfDB Group manages over UA 13.25 billion (USD 18.36 billion) worth of treasury assets. This liquidity is invested in a wide range of currencies and is subdivided in various portfolios with different investment horizon, objectives and guidelines. To optimize the returns on the different portfolios, a wide range of financial instruments are used; notably:

  • Deposits, repurchase agreements, commercial papers, foreign exchange and currency swaps for cash management;
  • Various derivatives for interest rate and credit risk management (swaps and futures);
  • Fixed-rate and floating rate securities, corporate bonds, Asset-Backed-Securities (ABS) and Mortgage-Backed-Securities (MBS).
