Kamal Elkheshen, an Egyptian national, was appointed Vice President of Sector Operations in August 2009. His responsibilities are to participate in developing the Bank’s strategies and Programmes and to ensure the timely delivery of policy and project support as defined by the Bank’s operational plans. He acquired vast professional experience. He was among the pioneer Bank staff when he joined the institution as Senior Economist in 1987. In 1994, as Senior Director, he established the African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank). From 1982 to 1987, Mr. Elkheshen was an Assistant Professor at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. He holds a PhD in agricultural economics from Oxford University, UK and a Master of Science in agricultural economics from the University of California, Davis, USA.
